நாமடைந்தால் நல்லரண் நமக்கென்று நல்லமரர் தீமை செய்யும் வல்லசுரரை அஞ்சிச் சென்றடைந்தால் காமரூபங் கொண்டு எழுந்தளிப்பான் திருமோகூர் நாமமே நவின்று எண்ணுமின் ஏத்துமின் நமர்காள்!

ஆழ்வார்களால் மங்களாசனம் செய்யப்பட்ட 108 திவ்ய தேசங்களில் இத்தலம் 94 வது திவ்ய தேசமாகும் . பெருமாள் மோஹினி வடிவில் காட்சி தரும் திவ்ய தலம் . பெருமாள் மோகினி வடிவில் இருப்பதால் மோகனவல்லி தாயார் தன் சன்னதியை விட்டு வெளியே வருவதில்லை . இங்குள்ள சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் தனி சிறப்பு பெற்றவர் , இவர் இங்கு 16 கைகளில் 16 விதமான ஆயுதங்களை வைத்துள்ளார் .
ஆலய அமைப்பு :
சாலையை ஒட்டிய ஒரு முகப்பு உள்ளது அதன் வழியாக சென்றால் கோயிலின் பிரமாண்டமான ஐந்து நிலை இராஜகோபுரத்தை நாம் காணலாம் . இடது புறம் மிகப்பெரிய திருப்பாற்கடல் தீர்த்தம். அதன் எதிரே, பதினெட்டாம்படி கருப்பண்ணசாமி கோவில் அமைந்துள்ளது. கோயிலுக்கு உள்ளே நுழைந்தவுடன் வடக்கே கம்பத்தடி மண்டபம் உள்ளது , இதில் இவ் ஆலயத்திற்கு திருப்பணி செய்த மருது சகோதர்களின் சிலைகள் உள்ளன . அடுத்து நாம் கருட மண்டபம் இதில் சீதா பிராட்டியை அணைத்தபடி ஸ்ரீராமர் சிலை , ரதி மற்றும் மன்மதன் சிலைகள் மிக அழகுற அமைத்துள்ளார்கள் . மண்டபத்தின் நடுவே கருட பகவான் சன்னதி உள்ளது .
அடுத்து நாம் மகா மண்டபத்தை கடந்து உள்ளே சென்றால் அர்த்தமண்டபம் மற்றும் கருவறையை அடையலாம் . கருவறையில் காளமேகப்பெருமாள் ஸ்ரீதேவி பூதேவியுடன் அழகிய விமானத்தின் கீழ் காட்சிகொடுக்கிறார் . அவர் மேலிரு கைகள் சங்கு சக்கரம் ஏந்தியும் , கீழ் வலது கைக தன் பாதத்தை காட்டி ” தன்னை சரணடைவோருக்கு நற்கதி அளிப்பேன் ” என்று காட்சி தரும் அற்புத தலம் .
காளமேகம் என்றால் கருமையான மழையைத் தரும் மேகம் என்று பொருள். பக்தர்களின் வேண்டுகோளுக்கு தாமதிக்காமல் அருளை மழைபோல் பொழியும் பெருமாள் என்பதால் இவருக்கு அந்தப் பெயர். இங்குள்ள உற்சவருக்கு, ‘திருமோகூர் ஆப்தன்’ என்று பெயர். ஆப்தன் என்றால் நண்பன் என்று பொருள். தெய்வம் என்ற நிலையிலிருந்து நண்பனாய் நம் வேண்டுகோளுக்குச் செவி சாய்த்து நம்மோடு வழித்துணையாய் வரும் பெருமாள் இவர் என்பதால் ஆப்தன் என்ற திருநாமத்தாலேயே அழைக்கப்படுகிறார்.
இங்கு பிராத்தனை சயன பெருமாள் , சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் , ஆஞ்சநேயர், நவநீத கிருஷ்ணர், ஆண்டாள் தாயார் மற்றும் மோகனவல்லி தாயார் சன்னதிகள் உள்ளன .
தல வரலாறு :
தேவர்களும் அசுரர்களும் சேர்ந்து திருப்பாற்கடலில் அமிர்தம் கடைகின்றனர். அப்போது அவர்களுக்குள் சண்டை ஏற்பட்டது. அசுரர்கள் தேவர்களுக்கு தொல்லை தருகின்றனர். அசுரர்களின் தொல்லை தாங்கமுடியாமல் தேவர்கள் பெருமாளிடம் சென்று முறையிடவே, பெருமாளும் மோகினி அவதாரம் எடுத்து தேவர்களை காத்தருளினார். பெருமாள் மோகினி அவதாரம் எடுத்ததால் இவ்வூர் திருமோனவூர் என்றிருந்து பின்பு திருமோகூர் என்று அழைக்கப்படுகிறது.
சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் :
இந்த ஆலயத்தில் மிகவும் புராதனமான சக்கரத்தாழ்வார் சன்னதி உள்ளது.
இவருக்கான உற்சவ சிலையில் 154 மந்திரங்களும், மூலவர் சிலையில் மந்திரங்களுக்குரிய 48 அதி தேவதைகளும் பொறிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளன.16 கைகளில் 16 விதமான ஆயுதங்களுடன் காட்சி தருகிறார். அதோடு தலையில் அக்னி கிரீடத்தை அணிந்து ஓடி வரும் நிலையில் பக்தர்களுக்கு காட்சி தருகிறார். சனிக்கிழமை அன்று இவரை வாங்க ஏராளமான பக்தர்கள் வருகிறார்கள் .
சன்னதியை விட்டு வெளிவராத மோகனவல்லி தாயார் :
மோகன வல்லி தாயார் சன்னதியை விட்டு வெளியே வருவதில்லை. இவளுக்கென விழாவும் கிடையாது இவளது சன்னதியில் சடாரி சேவை ,தீர்த்த பிரசாதமும் தரப்படுவதில்லை .நவராத்திரியின் போது மட்டும் விசேஷ பூஜை செய்யப்படுகிறது .பங்குனி உத்திரத்தன்று சுவாமி, தாயார் சன்னதிக்கு வந்து இருவரும் சேர்ந்து மூன்று மணி நேரம் மட்டுமே காட்சி கொடுக்கிறார்கள்.எனவே சுவாமியுடன் ஆண்டாளே பிரதானமாக புறப்படுகிறாள்.இத்தலத்துப் மோகனவல்லிக்கும் வில்வ இலை அர்ச்சனை செய்யப்படுகிறது.
இக்கோயிலிலுள்ள பல மண்டபங்கள் சிவகங்கையை ஆட்சிபுரிந்த மருது பாண்டியர் திருப்பணியாகும். இக்கோவிலின் கம்பத்தடி இம்மண்டபத்திலுள்ள ராமர், சீதை, லட்சுமணர், ஆஞ்சநேயர், ஆகியோரின் உருவங்களைக் கொண்ட ஒற்றைக் கல்லினாலான சிற்பங்கள் சிறந்த சிற்ப கலைக்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டாகும் . யாளிகளின் உருவங்களைத் தாங்கிய தூண்கள் அரிய சிற்ப வேலைப்பாடுகள் மிக்கது. இம்மண்டபத்தில், சந்நிதியை நோக்கியவாறு, மருது பாண்டியர் ஆளுயரக் கற்றூண் உருவங்கள் காணப்படுகின்றன.
கல்வெட்டுகள் :
பிற்கால பாண்டிய ராஜசடையவர்மன் சுந்தர பாண்டியர் காலத்துக் கல்வெட்டு (கி.பி.1251 – 1271), முதலாம் மாறவர்மன் குலசேகரப் பாண்டியன் (கி.பி.1268 – 1311), ஆகியோரது கல்வெட்டுகளில் காளமேகப்பெருமாள் பற்றி குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ளது. கி.பி. 16-ம் நூற்றாண்டில் வாழ்ந்த விஜயநகர மன்னனான வீரப்பிரதாப சதாசிவநாயனார் கல்வெட்டுகள், அவர் பல கொடைகள் வழங்கிய செய்தியை சொல்கின்றன.

திறந்திருக்கும் நேரம் :
காலை 7 மணி முதல் 12 மணி வரை, மாலை 4 மணி முதல் இரவு 8 மணி வரை.
சனிக்கிழமைகளில் காலை 5.30 மணிக்கு திறக்கப்படும்.
செல்லும் வழி :
மதுரை – மேலூர் சாலையில் ஒத்தக்கரையின் அருகே 1 கிலோமீட்டர் தொலைவில் திருமோகூர் உள்ளது.மாட்டுத்தாவணி பேருந்து நிலையத்தில் இருந்து நிறைய பேருந்துகள் உள்ளன .
History in English:
This place is the 94th divine land among the 108 Divya Desams that have been blessed by the Alwars. Perumal is a divine place in the form of Mohini. As Perumal is in the form of Mohini, Mother Mohanavalli does not come out of her sanctum. Chakrathalwar here is special, he has 16 different weapons in 16 hands.
Temple Structure:
There is a facade along the road through which we can see the grand five-tiered Rajagopuram of the temple. On the left side is the huge Tirupakalat Thirtha. Opposite it, Karuppannasamy Temple is located on the eighteenth. On entering the temple, there is a pillared mandapam to the north, which houses the idols of the Maruthu brothers who dedicated the temple. Next we come to the Garuda Mandapam, in which the idol of Sri Rama, Rathi and Cupid are arranged very beautifully. In the middle of the hall is the shrine of Lord Garuda.
Next if we pass the Maha Mandapam and go inside we can reach the Ardhamandapam and the sanctum sanctorum. In the sanctum sanctorum, Kalameghaperumal Sridevi with Bhudevi performs under the beautiful vimana. He is carrying a conch wheel in his upper two hands and showing his foot in the lower right hand saying “I will give blessings to those who surrender”.
Kalamekam means dark rain cloud. She is named as Perumal, who showers blessings like rain without delay on the requests of the devotees. The Utsavar here is called ‘Thirumogur Apthan’. Aftan means friend. Perumal, who listens to our requests as a friend from the position of a deity and comes as a helper, is called by the name Apthan.
There are shrines of Prathanai Sayana Perumal, Chakrathalwar, Anjaneyar, Navaneetha Krishna, Andal Thayar and Mohanavalli Thayar.
History:
Devas and Asuras together drink nectar in Tirupalakada. Then there was a fight between them. Asuras trouble the gods. Unable to bear the trouble of the Asuras, the Devas went to Perumal to appeal, and Perumal took the form of Mohini and waited on the Devas. The town was called Tirumonavur and then Thirumogur because Perumal took incarnation as Mohini.
CHAKRATHALWAR:
This temple has a very ancient Chakrathalwar shrine.
154 mantras are engraved on the Utsava statue for him and 48 Ati devathas corresponding to mantras are engraved on the Moolavar statue. He is shown with 16 different weapons in 16 hands. Along with this, Agni shows the devotees while running with a crown of fire on his head. Many devotees come to buy him on Saturday.
Mohanavalli’s mother who did not come out of the shrine:
Mohana Valli’s mother never comes out of the shrine. There is no festival for her, neither satari service nor tirtha prasadam is given in her shrine. Special puja is performed only during Navratri. On Panguni Uttra, Swami and mother come to the shrine and both of them show only for three hours. Therefore, she mainly leaves with Swami.
Many mandapas in this temple are the Tirupani of Maruthu Pandya who ruled Sivagangai. The single stone sculptures with images of Rama, Sita, Lakshmana, Anjaneya in this mandapam under the pillar of this temple are an example of the best sculptural art. The pillars bearing figures of Yalis are rich in rare carvings. In this hall, towards the Sannidhi, there are pillared figures of Maruthu Pandyar.
Inscriptions:
Kalameghaperumal is mentioned in the inscriptions of the later Pandya Rajasadayavarman Sundara Pandiya (1251 – 1271 AD) and Maravaman Kulasekhara Pandyan I (1268 – 1311 AD). AD Inscriptions of the 16th century Vijayanagara king Veerapradhapa Satasivanayanar narrate the news of his many bounties.

Tirumogur is 1 kilometer near Othakarai on the Madurai-Melur road. There are many buses from Mattuthavani bus station.
